By developing sustainable analytical procedures, We make more reliable and effective the analysis of organic contaminants in agro-foods and environmental samples

AQAIMPA group focuses its research on the development of sustainable analytical procedures, based on Green Chemistry Principles, for their application to the analysis of organic contaminants in environmental and agro-food samples. It is carried out taking into account the directrices established by the regulatory authorities. In this way, the research is directed to the analysis of those groups of contaminants which involved an important risk for general population and consumers such as pesticides, antibiotics, oestrogens or plastic migrants, among others.

In this sense, the researchers that constitute the work team have a wide experience in the development and application of miniaturised extractions, which reduce the analytical processes environmental impact. Besides these sample treatments are combined with separation techniques such as gas chromatography (GC), capillary electrophoresis (CE), and liquid chromatography (LC), in their different modes, hyphenated with conventional detectors or mass spectrometry systems. In this way, AQAIMPA has been one of the first groups at the University of La Laguna in which those kinds of techniques were used for the performance of novel analytical procedures.

In the same way, following an action line supported by the concept of sustainability, AQAIMPA also conducts the synthesis and study of different types of nanomaterials and their subsequent application in the developed analytical procedures, favouring their miniaturisation and efficiency. Apart from that, the research group also works in the development of other environmentally friendly materials such as ionic liquids (ILs) and, most recently, deep eutectic solvents (DES), which currently constitute one of the principal research strategies within Green Analytical Chemistry. AQAIMPA has been working in that issue since 2017, being one of the pioneer groups on the application of these materials in Analytical Chemistry.

A GROUP AT THE FOREFRONT OF THE INVESTIGATION

Over the years, AQAIMPA has been at the forefront of the national and international investigation, as demonstrates the wide number of collaborations with different prestigious research groups around the world, as well as, the recognition that has had all the researchers that have taken part of this group, specially the coordinations, Prof. Dr. Francisco Javier García Montelongo and Prof. Dr. Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Delgado.
